Common Questions

Why should I think about emergency preparedness?

Disruptions happen more often than most people realize: power outages, supply chain delays, severe weather, even short-term water issues. Having a few basics in place means your family stays comfortable and safe instead of scrambling. It is not about fear — it is about practical peace of mind.

How much does basic preparedness actually cost?

You can cover the essentials for a family of four for under $100 if you build gradually. Start with stored water, a basic first aid kit, and some extra pantry staples. The most impactful steps are often free: printing emergency contacts, knowing your shut-off valves, and having a family communication plan.

I rent my home. Can I still prepare effectively?

Absolutely. Most preparedness steps work regardless of whether you own or rent. Water storage, food supplies, power banks, first aid kits, and go-bags are all portable. You may skip things like permanent generators, but everything else applies fully.

How much water do I really need to store?

The standard recommendation is one gallon per person per day for drinking and basic hygiene. A 3-day supply is the minimum starting point. For a family of four, that means 12 gallons — roughly the space of a few cases of bottled water. From there you can build up to 7 or 14 days.
